Troupe

Troupe was a group for young people with experience of the care system, which offered a unique opportunity to get involved in theatre by seeing shows and shadowing professionals. Troupe engaged young people in the North East with a care background or living in supported accommodation aged 14 - 21.

Monthly Theatre Trips

Every month we met up for a bite to eat before visiting one of Newcastle’s cultural venues to see a professional theatre show. The shows are chosen by the group. Performances were often be accompanied by

  • A short workshop beforehand with our team to explore the themes of the show we’re going to see

  • A question and answer session with the cast and creative team after the show

  • A backstage tour

  • Meeting the artists involved in making the show

Master Classes with Professional Artists

We worked with professional local artists to provide one off workshops to explore different skills in theatre and performing arts, this ranged from stand up comedy to lighting, set design or sound recording.

Opportunities to Shadow Artists on Theatre Projects

Curious Monkey was a theatre company and every year we made a new show. We offered shadowing opportunities for young people to work alongside our creative teams to gain experience of different roles within the theatre.

We Provided:

Travel to and from the theatre or workshop

Free theatre tickets for young people and a carer

Refreshments at trips and workshops
