Curious Monkey was the North East’s first theatre company of Sanctuary. Our work shared stories of underrepresented communities, raising awareness of the issues they face. Our projects promoted inclusion & celebrated diversity. Our productions were inspired by and developed with the people we work with. Our programme focused on people seeking sanctuary and young people with experience of the care system.

Our vision:

To create a fairer, more integrated society where everyone is welcomed, valued and heard.

Our mission:

Use theatre and creativity to improve the life chances and wellbeing of the communities we work with, centring them at the heart of the creative process and helping to tackle the inequalities they face; Influence dialogue with diverse audiences and decision makers across the UK and internationally, encouraging positive societal change.
