Call out for people of the Global Majority who work in the arts in the North East to take part in a paid consultation workshop

In this instance we use the term ‘Global Majority’ to mean people who are most likely to experience racism. For example and not exclusive to African Diaspora people, South, East, and South East Asian diaspora people, Latinx people, Middle East and North African people.

We’re using this term in line with the BAMEover campaign. We want to be inclusive with this definition and want to hear from artists whose race means they are likely to experience interpersonal, institutional and/or structural racism.

We are a small group from NE Culture Against Racism who volunteered to take on one of the action points from the big ‘Town Hall’ zoom discussion in the Autumn.

Our task is to work on setting up a project for match making individuals (artists, producers, technicians) who are most likely to experience racism, with organisations they are interested in getting to know. The match making would happen with a particular individual from the organisation and the project would be about getting to know each other with no pressure to produce anything. The individual artist/producer/technician would be paid for their time to take part.

We have a draft plan about what a pilot project might look like. We want to bring together a group of people to give us feedback on the plans so far, to help us to develop the idea to make it as useful for people as possible. The consultation will also help shape the pilot project in order for us to apply for funding to make it happen.

The consultation session will happen on zoom on Wednesday 19th May 2pm - 3.30pm facilitated by Humira Imtiaz and Amy Golding. There will also be someone in attendance for any wellbeing support that might be needed.

How to apply?

If you are interested please fill in this simple form with your name, your art form/s (eg: theatre, dance, visual arts, music etc) and where you live in the North East along with any access needs you may require by 12noon Friday 14th May.

We will randomly select a small group of people that represents a cross section of people from different art forms and different locations across the North East.

We will pay you £75 for you to take part in the session.

We look forward to talking to you, to listening and hearing your ideas.

Many Thanks

Ruth, Humira, Amy, Jenny, Katy, Laura, Sarah (the match making working group, NE Culture Against Racism)
