Paid Casting Opportunity with Curious Monkey

CASTING OPPORTUNITY (PAID)

Curious Monkey are looking for 4 actors/devisers to work for 4 days on research and development for a new project in May 2016.

We have worked extensively in South Africa delivering artist development projects and producing the verbatim play Mamela, now we have a new idea for a potential performance project that we would like to explore looking at cultural exchange between Newcastle, UK and Newcastle, SA.

We will be hosting a South African performance group from Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal in Newcastle upon Tyne for a week in April/May 2016 in partnership with Newcastles of the World, a project celebrating the alliance of all the Newcastles in the world (all 200 of them!).

We are looking for 4 actors to work with Artistic Director Amy Golding and 5 South African performers from 1st – 4th May (including bank holiday). We will be working 2 half days and 2 full days culminating in a sharing of work on the evening of Wednesday 4th May.

We are looking for actors who:

  • are from the North East
  • can sing (feel comfortable singing in a group)
  • can bring local stories from the region to the process
  • are confident in devising
  • are curious/interested in learning about other cultures
  • are happy to share your own stories
  • are available from 1st – 4th May
  • can be available from 28th April – 1st May also to take part in other activities as part of The May Exchange*

We would love to find some actors who can bring local and/or traditional songs to the process to teach to the group. (but this is not compulsory for everyone)

If you are interested in attending a casting workshop please email amy@curiousmonkeytheatre.com with your CV, headshot and a paragraph about why you would like to be part of the research and development of this project.

Deadline for applications: 29th March 2016.

(We will let you know by Friday 1st April if you are invited to a casting)

Casting workshops will take place: Week beginning 4th April.

*This project is part of The May Exchange, an international project celebrating international and local artists in Newcastle during the month of May. The May Exchange is a partnership between Curious Monkey, GIFT, Ladies of Midnight Blue and Zendeh.
